TASKSTREAM-FINAL Google Doc

Analyzing Student Data in a Spreadsheet

Link to Assignment #4

Personal Reflection:
This assignment took me awhile to master but after I figure out how to embed the spreadsheets and chat in my blog I felt really good about my accomplishment.  This assignment was fun to play around with and figure it out.  I did get stuck once, so I looked at Barry's video to help me and then I was good to go and nothing could have stopped me.

Analysis of Data:
From looking at the data from the student tests I noticed that from test to test the whole class seemed to improve.  This would be a good sign for teachers seeing all the students improve from first test (test 6) to the last test (test 10).  There was one odd ball or exception to the chart and that was Katherine.  Katherine had the lowest test score of the class for test 6 and then peeked with her best test score for test 7.  After that she had a lower test score then begin to increase her test scores from test 8-10.  If I was the teacher of this class I would be very happy seeing almost all of my students increase their test scores from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.  As a teacher thats what you want to see!

My Favorite Web 2.0 tools

Web 2.0 - are websites that allow you to share and collaborate information, pictures, and audio files through the world wide web.  A example of web 1.0 would be a site that allows you to upload information for your personal use, but with web 2.0 when you upload that same information to can share that with anyone.

4Shared - is a website where you can upload, access, and share your music, photos, and other files.  This is a free website and you can hold up to 10GB of information for free.  Using 4Shared can really help keep me organized and I could use it to store files that I would need by accesses them with ease from different computers.  As a future teacher this could help my students save files that the would need at home and at school.

Tokbox - is a website where you can video chat online with out a download.  Tokbox is a lot Skype but with Skype you have to download it to use the application.  Not only that, through Tokbox you can collaborate and share videos, as well as video conferencing.  As a future teacher I could use Tokbox to help subs with lesson plans, talk to students with homework issues, or even have a person talk to my classroom to give personal perspective on some project we are doing.

Google Docs

Google Docs is a free online word processor that looks like Microsoft Word but has the ablilities to do much more.  A huge advantage of Google Docs is that you can collborate with mulitlple people in diferent location. Meaning if you are personally working on doc other people who are online can be working on the same document at the same time. Its neat how you can interact with your group members even when you are not around each other.  With Google Docs, you don’t need you team to meet at one specific location to work on group projects.  All you need is Google Docs and you are good to go.
  • There are many more sweet features to Google Docs.  With Google Docs your files are saved in a save and organized folder.  While you are working on a single document, your work is constantly being saved in the file/folder you want it in.
  • Other features of Google Docs are that you can create math equations with all of the symbols they offer.
  • you can insert lines, links, tables, clip art, and pics in your document as well.
Here are a few bullets on how Google Docs can improve productivity and enhance teaching and learning.

  • Use with projector for whole class to see
    • Ideas that are brainstormed
    • A class assignment
    • The writing and revising process
    • Data in a table (can be edited on the fly!)
    • Get to know your students activities (sharing interesting facts, etc.)
    • Collaborative writing activities (use instead of charts)
  • Multiple revisions on papers
  • Peer editing opportunities
  • Collaborative activities
  • Reading response or Interactive journals
  • A spreadsheet for student feedback on a lesson or confirming their understanding
Being able to learn the basics of Google Docs was pretty easy since the documents look exactly like a Microsoft Word document, and have many of the same basic features. However, since Google Docs offers many more options and features than Word I am still learning the some features and how to use them. The features that I am still learning since I haven't played around with yet include: sheets, forms, and drawings.
In our group presentation I was in charge of definition of Google Docs.

Backing Up Storage?

Is there a good place online where you can back up all of your important documents, photos, and music files for free?
